CHP Request: Fatality Free 4th of July

Comments Off

The California Highway Patrol Commissioner, Mike Brown, issued a challenge to the state’s motorists for the Independence Day holiday.

“We are asking all motorists to be extra careful and courteous this Fourth of July,” was Brown’s request.

With a “maximum enforcement” effort on the part of the CHP, Brown was hoping for a traffic fatality free day. We have had only three days without a fatality traffic accident on California freeways since 1968.

We failed miserably. Eighteen people died in traffic accidents according to the Sacramento Bee.

Since 1968, there have only been three fatal accident free days on California freeways.
